Tomorrow is the month of May which means it's the month of the show! This is very exciting for us, but at the same time, it's also motivation to keep working hard on memorizing the lyrics
to the songs, learning lines and practicing dance moves!
A lot has happened since our last blogpost. First of all, all post-secondary students have finished exams and are free until summer school starts! This means that we have a lot more time and flexibility to rehearse. I think sometimes people don't realize how time-consuming it is to be a student during the week and then an actress or actor on the weekend! On top of that, some people even have work to fit into their schedules plus other hobbies that they may have! We're really fortunate to have such a committed and hard-working cast that somehow manages to stay on top of everything and put aside precious studying or relaxing time to come to rehearsal. They're the best cast!
On April 27th, we had our lovely gondoliers come in for a photo shoot. Now you may be scratching your head and wondering how the heck you managed to fall asleep during your English class and completely miss the part of the gondoliers but FEAR NOT! You would be perfectly correct if you have no recollection of any gondoliers in Shakespeare's play for we have set our particular version in the delightful city of masks-VENICE! These charming gondoliers, who comprise of Demi Marcakis, Carl Wiebe, Kylie Mantei, Tye McLellan, Evan Bentley-Inouye and James Munro, are not simply gondoliers however. Oh no; much like the members of our cast, they also play double roles in their lives. Yes indeed; by day they are lowly gondoliers who are forced to float through canal and serenade tourists to earn their bread and butter, but by night, they become a group of actors and actresses who put on the most lamentable comedy of "Pyramus and Thisbe". I think anyone who has seen A Midsummer Night's Dream before will tell you that "Pyramus and Thisbe" is one of the show's greatest scene! We hope you're excited for it!
On April 28th and April 29th, we sang our songs infront of an audience for the first time! We had a few nervous faces at first because I think it's been a while since most people have sung infront of an audience, but overall the shows went very well and we received a lot of nice compliments! Many members of the audience were also quite impressed with our costumes! Do you like them?! The dresses of Hermia and Helena were made by our very own Shayla Hastings and she also helped us with designing the fairy costumes! The gondolier costumes were cut up and sewn together with a little help from my Dad and a nifty sewing machine.
After the shows, we had rehearsal and we finally got a look at what our set will look like! It's crunch time now so we have rehearsal almost every day for the next couple of weeks. We're very
excited for the show and we hope that you make plans to see it if you haven't yet! Shows are May 24th, 25th, and 26th. Entrance is by donation and all proceeds benefit BC Children's
