KP Productions

History of KP Productions

On an ordinary winter day in December 2009, Karina and Kazandra Pangilinan sat down to watch some of their old elementary and high school musical productions.  They wistfully recalled the nerve-racking auditions, the process of memorizing lines and perfecting choreography, the late night rehearsals, the excitement leading up to opening night, and the sense of accomplishment when taking the final bow. They realized just how much they missed musical theater being a part of their lives. It was in this moment that the idea of KP Productions was born.

Who Are We Anyway?

KP Productions is a non-profit musical theater company that provides an opportunity for students to continue their love for musical theater outside the classroom.  Our goals are to promote the arts in our community by offering affordable entertainment for people of all ages and give students an opportunity to perform. We welcome all students to join our program and we uphold a creative environment that promotes positive values and inclusion.

KP Productions  values hard work and committment and we work very hard to produce high-quality shows that are worthy of applause from our audience. We strive for excellence in all our endeavors and provide our cast members with an opportunity to foster their creativity, strengthen their teamwork skills, and further develop their talents.

Meet the Founders

Karina Pangilinan

I don't think there's anything better than growing up in a musical family.  All my life I've been surrounded by music in everything from taking piano and violin lessons, playing tenor sax and clarinet in school jazz band and wind ensemble, and being a part of school choirs and musical productions.  I have entertained at numerous public and private functions around the Lower Mainland along with my sisters and in June 2008 and 2009 my sisters and I organized benefit concerts titled '2 Pianos, 4 Sisters, 8 Hands' for the Red Cross and BC Children's Hospital.
In 2005, I began teaching piano to young students.  I currently teach 13 students and am pleased that many have received First Class Honours with Distinction in their RCM exams.

Directing these productions is an incredible experience as we are able to bring together casts of university and highschool students and share with them our common goal and dream to create these musicals.
I currently attend the UBC Sauder School of Business as an Accounting Major.
Interests include traveling, fancy hotels, watching movies, Disney, and of course, musical theatre.

Kazandra Pangilinan

Hi, I'm Kazandra. I grew up watching Disney movies where singing and dancing seemed to be a regular occurance in everyday life and I think this was one of the reasons why I fell in love with musical theater.  Life just seems so much happier when you're singing and dancing, don't you think? I come from a musical family and I have been performing nearly all my life. I started learning the piano when I was five and eventually took up the clarinet, violin and alto saxophone as well. I currently have 14 students whom I teach piano at Twilight Sound Studios. I've been involved in musical theater since elementary school  and past productions include The Music ManHonk! and Beauty and the Beast.

I saw my first live musical-Fiddler on the Roof-when I was ten years old, and I loved everything about it! I've now seen many musicals including Guys and Dolls, Miss Saigon and I was even lucky enough to see The Phantom of the Opera in New York! My favorite musical is Les Miserables.

I like old novels, the Vancouver Canucks, and freshly baked cookies.  I currently attend the UBC Sauder School of Business and where I am majoring in marketing.
